London to Dover- By my trip computer the distance was 83.1 miles (133.7km), 5h12'23" ride time, average speed of
16.25mph (26.1km/h), max speed of 46mph (74km/h).
I took three falls today - first at 24 miles when going down hill I had to drastically break to avoid a dust cart blocking the entire lane. Ended up in holly bush. Second was when changing down a chain ring on a steep hill the chain game off. The third was trying to restart on fore mentioned hill, had to rewheel to the bottom and restart. Think only a couple of us hit the tarmac the whole trip. The route after lunch was described as 'undulating'. Sharks tooth would be my description. Nice to get to Dover and have a dip in the sea and an ice cream outside our hotel, the Churchill. The others stayed in Premier Travel Inn and County Dover Hotel. RL heart rate trace for Day 1 |
